Taking Charge of
Your Learning Future:
A New Approach
to Training
|
Module Description
It's time for employees to take responsibility for their own learning — just as they take responsibility for their work. Managers and training professionals can still play an important role in employee development, but in the end, the responsibility has to rest with the individual employee. After all, they have the most to gain. Taking Charge of Your Learning Future provides employees with a learner-driven and learner-friendly process for identifying and strengthening skills that will have an immediate and positive impact on their current work priorities. It builds on an employee's strengths and integrates learning into already scheduled activities.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this 3-hour session, participants will be able to:
- State several reasons for taking the lead in their learning future.
- Use a simple toolkit-based process for identifying skills — technical/analytical and interpersonal — that will have an immediate impact on their work priorities.
- Explain the need for practice and repetition in learning emotionally-based soft skills.
- Put into action a methodology for learning skills that builds on their strengths and naturally weaves the learning process into their lives.
- Explain the critical and often misunderstood role of reinforcement and reward in learning and behavior change.
- Explain the potential of focusing on strengths, rather than weaknesses when the desired outcome is to move from good to great.
Key Session Outcomes
Participants will walk out of the session with:
- A doable, step-by-step, calendared plan for strengthening a skill that will have an immediate and strong impact on their current work priorities.
- A learner-friendly and learner-driven toolkit that provides a repeatable methodology to identify and strengthen high potential skills.
